Introduction

A 23-bedroom, pub hotel and restaurant, owned and operated by Heartwood Inns Limited, in the centre of the historic town of Lewes, East Sussex.

Recently refurbished to a four-star standard of accommodation and with a pub and restaurant in keeping with Heartwood Inns.

The Inn is located on Lewes High Street.

Taxis can be ordered from the Inn and our Team are pleased to help with this.

Arrival & car parking facilities

We do not have an on-site car park.

The closest pay and display car parks are:

  • The Maltings: BN7 1YT: 3 minutes’ walk. 24-hour access
  • East Street: BN7 2NU: 4 minutes’ walk. 24-hour access
  • Pinwell Road Car Park: BN7 2JS: 5 minutes’ walk.  24-hour access
  • NCP Lewes Eastgate:  BN7 2LP:  6 minutes’ walk.  24-hour access

We have a drop off zone at the rear of the Inn. Once dropped off, access to the Inn is up the cobbled covered passage onto the High Street with the main door on your left.

Main entrance

The main entrance of the Inn is on the High Street, at the front of the building.
Access from the drop off zone is up an incline, an uneven cobbled path.

More level access is from Station Street, the B2193, which joins the High Street.

Station Street is on an incline but provides a paving slab pedestrian pavement.

There is a slight lip at the front door entrance.

The entrance way is tiled and the ground floor is a mix of tile and timber throughout.

The main door opens inwards and is not motorised.

Staff are always on duty to assist if required and, as a minimum, will be located at the restaurant host stand and main bar.

Side entrance

A side entrance to the Inn is half way up the cobbled passage and then up 6 steps to the side path.

Registration

Guests who have booked overnight accommodation can register either at our reception desk on the ground floor or we can complete the registration process at a table.

Our registration process is paperless and is completed on one of our portable tablets.

Room keys are available either as a digital key on your mobile phone or as a credit card size plastic key.

Both will provide access to your bedroom and any other door required to give access to your room.

The Ground Floor

The Pub and Restaurant are located on the ground floor.

Near level access is provided throughout through given the age of the building some of the floor surfaces are a little uneven, though in character with the building.

Floor surfaces are a mix of timber and tile.

Seating is available in various spaces around the bar and restaurant.

We are dog friendly and have allocated areas of the bar and restaurant where dogs can relax with their humans. Our Team can advise further on your arrival.

Background music is played continually at low volume.

There is ample space in which to move around and seating can be moved to accommodate as necessary.

Waiter service is offered throughout the ground floor and specific dietary needs are catered for.

A ‘no smoking’ policy is in effect throughout. This policy includes the smoking of e-cigarettes and any such similar devices as well as all other tobacco products.

Baby changing facilities are available in the Accessible Toilet.

Toilet facilities

There are ladies, gentlemen’s and accessible toilets on the ground floor, situated approximately equidistant between the dining areas.

Access to the ladies and gents toilets is up 6 steps.

The accessible toilet is on the same level as the restaurant, has a tiled floor surface, emergency pull cord and baby changing facilities. Support rails are situated in the disabled access toilet as well as coat hooks.

Bedrooms

There are 23 bedrooms at the Inn, spread over 4 floors.

We have 4 Luxe rooms (our premium rooms) on the lower ground floor, accessed via a level covered walkway. These rooms are adjacent to the drop off area.

Access to the pub and dining areas from these rooms is via the doors half way along the cobbled passage or the front door off the High Street.

The remaining 19 rooms in the Inn are located over the first, second and third floors.

Access is via the main staircase – we do not have a lift due to age and listed status of the Inn.

We do not have an accessible bedroom due to the age and listed status of the Inn.

Corridor floors are undulating in places due to the age of the Inn and care should be taken when walking on bedroom corridors.

Some floors in certain rooms slope slightly, due to the age of the Inn. 

Please advise us on booking if you have any concerns and we can advise on the most appropriate room types to book if you have any mobility concerns.

Our lower ground floor rooms have wooden floors and tiled bathroom floors.

All other bedrooms are carpeted with tiled bathroom floors.

Three rooms have beds which can be either doubles or twins.

Our snug rooms have either a cabin bed, which has one side flush to a bedroom wall and the other side open, or an open sided double bed. These rooms also have a pouffe as a seat, located at the desk. Our snug rooms are our smallest rooms.

All other bedrooms have seating at the desk and other seating subject to the room type.

A tea tray with a selection of items is in each room along with a cordless kettle, iron and board, and a television with casting solution.

There is a safe in each room and a fridge in which we provide bottled water.

We do not provide room service.

Well behaved dogs and assistance dogs are welcome.

If advised of assistance being required in the event of an emergency, a staff member will knock on the bedroom door to assist with any evacuation.

The Inn is staffed throughout the day and night and should you require any assistance to evacuate the building, please let our team know on arrival or at registration.

All bedrooms and corridors are designated as non-smoking areas. This policy includes the smoking of e-cigarettes and any such similar devices as well as all other tobacco products.

Bathrooms, shower-rooms and WC

All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms which, due to the age of the building, vary in shape and size. All rooms have a walk-in shower with a small step for access.

Our Luxe rooms also have a feature bath in the bathroom. One room has a feature bath in the bedroom.

Patio area / external seating

There is an external patio dining area at the rear of the Inn. Access is over a step onto a level, tiled surface.

The same menu is served on the patio as in the bar.

There is ample space in which to move around.

Fire Alarm

The Inn has a fully audible fire alarm with sounders positioned around the building. In the event of the alarm being triggered you are asked to evacuate the building to the fire assembly point.

The alarm can be raised at the break glass points positioned around the building or by contacting a member of the Inn Team.

For guests who are staying overnight, a portable “deafguard” system is available from our reception desk should you be hard of hearing.

The fire alarm is tested weekly, usually on a Tuesday.
